Bautista Named Clinical Research Unit Nurse Manager
The Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Science (NUCATS) Institute has named Angelyque Bautista as the new Northwestern Medicine Clinical Research Unit Nurse Manager. Bautista is a seasoned clinical trials leader and current PhD candidate with more than a decade of experience in pediatrics, neurology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and epilepsy research.
“I’m absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to join the CRU at Northwestern University,” says Bautista. “This role feels especially meaningful as it marks a wonderful homecoming to Chicago after being away for the past five years. I’m eager to contribute my experience to such a respected hospital and research enterprise in my hometown.”
Bautista holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology with a family and children concentration from Roosevelt University and serves on the board of directors for the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium. Her professional background includes leadership in research administration, regulatory compliance, and program development across major academic and healthcare institutions.

“Angelyque’s commitment to fostering collaboration, advancing clinical innovation, and translating research into meaningful impact for patients and their families will be invaluable as she steps into this new role,” says NUCATS Executive Director Nicole Woitowich, PhD.
As NMH Clinical Research Unit Nurse Manager, Bautista will help oversee the NMH CRU and CRU Core Lab, which are both part of the NUCATS Center for Clinical Research. The CRU supports Northwestern Medicine’s research mission by providing research specific nursing and laboratory services for the implementation of clinical trials and other clinical research, increasing their availability to participants.
The nursing staff is vital for ensuring the safety and well-being of clinical trial participants while managing the day-to-day coordination of active research studies. The NMH CRU and CRU nurses work in Northwestern Medicine outpatient, ambulatory, and inpatient clinical settings to complete protocol driven nursing activities. This includes robust mobile nursing activities.
“For me, clinical research isn’t only about the data — it’s about the impact it can have on patients and families,” says Bautista. “The teams involved in clinical research are essential to this mission, applying their knowledge and care to ensure every study is executed with excellence. Their work is what makes research meaningful and truly life changing.”
