Feasibility Query Tool

i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside) is a web-based tool that allows scientists, students, and staff to develop and run simple queries against a subset of data in the NMEDW. This gives users the ability to quickly determine the feasibility of conducting a study.

i2b2 lets you look for the number of patients that have been diagnosed with a disease, had a procedure, meet certain demographic criteria, had a laboratory result and were prescribed to a medication. Currently, only these variables are available to be searched. It can help you quickly determine the feasibility of conducting a research study or clinical trial and iteratively work through hypothesis generation by modifying your own searches.

The i2b2 system is already available to all Northwestern University researchers and affiliates. You can access i2b2 here from the NU Network or VPN. If you need help using i2b2 or have questions about your results, please contact i2b2@northwestern.edu.

Visit the i2b2 system site, developed by Partners Healthcare, to learn more.

Important Upgrade Notice

The Feinberg School of Medicine i2b2 query tool has been upgraded to deliver faster searches and the latest security updates. For those of you who have used i2b2 in the past, there is a new URL which you will need to use, but there are no changes to how you will run your queries. All users will be required to re-register to use the new version.

An important note: Any saved searches in the old tool have not been transferred to the new version. You will need to log into the old version before this Monday, 9/10/18 to record your saved queries. The support team will not be able to assist you with transferring those queries, and will not be able to recover them once the old query tool is shut down. Please review your query history immediately if you wish to save them, and/or reach out to the support team with questions at i2b2@northwestern.edu.

Please register for a new user account here.
