For Investigators
NUCATS facilitates and helps grow the overall clinical and translational research enterprise at Northwestern. Here are a few ways we can help NU investigators interested in these areas.

Pilot Funding

The NUCATS Research Discovery Program will be running a variety of Pilot Funding Programs across the enterprise. Click here for current pilot opportunities.

Core Facilities
You can find links to NUCATS member core facilities below (note: some facilities are restricted to specific members).

Regulatory Assistance

The Regulatory Support Program will help you navigate through the required paperwork associated with conducting clinical and translational research. You can find helpful information, including contacts at our clinical trials support services page.

Commercialization
Commercialization, the process of bringing a new product or service to market, is an important aspect of translational research.  A basic understanding and appreciation of the commercialization process is important to avoid mistakes that could slow the arrival of new products to the medical community. Learn more about the process by visiting our commercialization section and attending our regular brown bag lunch seminars.

Finding Collaborators

Search Feinberg faculty profiles - A major part of the NUCATS mission is to promote and facilitate collaboration across Northwestern University and its affiliates. To this end, we are compiling a comprehensive list of NU researcher interests across the entire enterprise, which we will be putting into the NUCATS researcher database. To start, only FSM researchers will be listed.

Research Team Support (RTS) within the NUCATS Institute focuses on advancing team-based, cross-disciplinary, translational life and biomedical sciences research.  RTS serves as a conduit between the practitioners of team science and scholars/researchers studying the science of team science.   The science of team science is a relatively new interdiscipline that allows investigators to consider the processes by which multi- and interdisciplinary scientific research teams organize themselves and how they think and do their work together in such a way that they arrive at breakthroughs attainable by neither individual nor strictly additive efforts.  Please contact the director, Holly Falk-Krzesinski, PhD (312-503-0889), for more information.

Search publications - You can also trawl NU researcher interest using the NUCATS publication database.

BioMedExperts is a new online community that connects biomedical researchers to each other through the display and analysis of the networks of co-authors with whom each investigator works to publish scientific papers.

As a Consortium that aims to expedite the pace of translation of healthcare discoveries, I am pleased to announce a milestone reached in support of clinical and translational research: the development of ResearchMatch.org.  ResearchMatch is a national volunteer research registry that brings together researchers and willing volunteers who wish to get involved in research studies.  The level of collaboration across the CTSA that has taken place to develop this national resource has been exceptional, with 39 of the 46 CTSAs officially participating.

Still can't find what you're looking for? NUCATS personnel possess broad institutional knowledge. We encourage you to contact us at nucats@northwestern.edu if you are interested in finding a collaborator or learning of researchers who are using a particular technology or methodology.

Membership
We encourage you to join NUCATS. The only requirement is that you are interested in clinical and translational research and have a faculty appointment at Northwestern. To join NUCATS, all you have to do is send us (nucats@northwestern.edu) your name, title and contact information, and a list of your research interests (including some key words). Once we receive that information, we will add you to our mailing list and make sure that you are informed of internal and external funding opportunities.
