Biography:
As a pharmaceutical industry professional with over 15 years experience in clinical trial coordination, monitoring, and management, including over 8 years in R&D training, Julie Rink has a unique and thorough understanding of the variety of employment opportunities and career paths the industry has to offer.

Biography:
Paula Carney, PhD, RD has over 20 years of experience in the fields of clinical research, public health and workforce training and development.  At Northwestern University (NU), she is responsible for education and training programs for clinical research professionals through the NUCATS Institute.  Prior to joining NU, she managed online compliance training for Thomson Learning’s healthcare market and was Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Tennessee, where she served as departmental IRB chair.  Paula received her BS from Loyola University’s Mundelein College, MS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and PhD from Wayne State University in Detroit. 

Session:
Getting Your Foot in the Door: New and Proven Paths to Career Opportunities in the Pharmaceutical Industry presented by Julie Rink, Assistant Director, R&D Traning, TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc.

Summary:
This program will include two speakers who entered the pharmaceutical and academic industries through a variety of different paths, e.g. research site, internship, contract agency, CRO, and small pharmaceutical company.  Speakers will discuss how they secured their first position, and the progression of their careers through various positions and specialities.

Objectives:
1.  Appreciate the variety of career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and academic industries
2.  Become aware of resources for securing a position or progressing in a career
3.  Identify action steps for personal development
