Biography:
Bethany Doerfler MS, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian whose research and clinical practice focuses on providing wellness-based medical nutrition therapy for digestive disorders including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and functional motility disorders such as gastroparesis. Bethany also integrates chronic disease prevention and management into medical nutrition therapy.

Prior to her work with the Center for Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorder Clinic, counseled patients at Northwestern Memorial Wellness Institute as well as Center for Partnership Medicine.

Ms. Doerfler earned a bachelors of science in nutrition from Michigan State University and a masters of science in nutritional epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she conducted obesity prevention projects with Chicago Public Schools. She completed her dietetic internship at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. Ms. Doerfler currently serves as adjunct faculty at Loyola University where she teaches graduate-level nutrition to dietetic interns. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), Illinois Dietetic Association, the Chicago Nutrition Association as well as several practice groups within the ADA.

Ms Doerfler has co-authored several book chapters and journal articles on diet and lifestyle modification in disease management. She has presented to corporate, medical and academic audiences throughout Chicago including community and cultural groups such as Deborah’s Place and Joffrey Ballet. She has been quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Women’s Health and Today’s Dietitian.  Other areas of interest include exercise in chronic disease, eating disorders, renal nutrition and women’s health.

Summary:
Americans are busier than ever and are looking to ways to improve their health and wellness without sacrificing time. This discussion will include realistic strategies to improve your health and nutrition without added stress.



Objectives:
1.  Recap current recommendations on healthy eating and wellness
2.  Discuss hidden “traps” to making healthy diet and lifestyle choices
3.  Identify positive strategies for making healthy food choices on the go
