Call for Poster Abstracts
Deadline Extended: February 29, 2008

Sponsored by The Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and the
Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute

A poster presentation is a new addition to the 2008 Clinical Research Educational Conference.  Posters are an effective method of communicating timely and original work in a public forum.  They represent ideas in graphical format, are interactive and facilitate productive discussion between poster authors and colleagues in the clinical research profession.  Posters will be available for viewing and discussion with authors from 7:30 - 8:30 am, and will remain up the rest of the conference day.  Abstract submissions are invited on the following:

  • Evidence-based practice
  • Performance improvement and innovations

Poster abstracts must be received no later than Friday, February 29, 2008 at midnight, in order to be considered by the review committee for the 2008 Clinical Research Educational Conference.  If you have any further questions regarding the information listed below, please contact Nicole Shiperek at n-shiperek@northwestern.edu or at 312-503-3337. 

In submitting a poster abstract, the primary author has reviewed and agreed to the following:

  • Abstracts are limited to 250 words in length and must be presented on a single page
  • Posters should be set up prior to 8:15 A.M. and will remain on display from 8:15 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Friday
  • Poster presenters should be available at their posters during afternoon break and remove posters at 4:00 P.M.
  • Posters must present data of professional or scientific interest to the clinical research professional
  • If prior copyright or ownership applies to their poster content, author must provide written permission from owner to submit abstract and display poster
  • Once a poster is accepted, content may not be significantly revised prior to the annual conference
  • Submissions will not be returned

POSTER ABSTRACT COMPONENTS:

1.  Primary Author Profile:
Provide the following information for the primary author: 

  • Primary author contact information (including daytime phone number and email address)
  • CV or resume

2.  Proposal Information:
Provide the following:

  • Poster Title - please limit your title to 20 words
  • One learning objective - at the conclusion of your presentation, participants should be able to . . .
  • Abstract
    -  Limit abstracts to 250 words, not including title, authors and references
    -  List author and facility names including city and state, do not include street addresses
    -  Include two references
    -  All information should fit on one 8 1/2" X 11" page with 1" margins and 12 point font
    -  Abstracts that are accepted will be published as submitted

3.  Required Forms
Please click on the links below to download and complete the required Continuing Medical Education (CME) Faculty Disclosure Form, Illinois Nurses Association (INA) Biographical Data Form and the INA Conflict of Interest/Commercial Support Statement Form. 

4.  Poster Review Committee
The Northwestern University Clinical Research Coordinator Group will form a review committee and review all entries.  All abstracts will be blinded before review.  Abstracts will be reviewed for:

  • Clinical research and evidence-based posters
    -  Background of problem and/or hypothesis
    -  Materials and/or methods
    -  Study aims
    -  Interventions
    -  Results/outcomes
    -  Two references
  • Performance improvement and innovations posters
    -  Background of the problem
    -  Purpose of the project
    -  Description of method used for improvement or innovation
    -  Outcome of the improvement or innovation
    -  Implications for clinical research
    -  Two references

5.  Abstract Notification
The primary author will be notified by March 31, 2008 if the abstract is accepted for the poster session and if it is also selected for poster oral presentation. It is the responsibility of the primary author to communicate with co-authors. 

6.  Poster Awards
The following Poster Awards will be presented:

  • All accepted abstracts will be published in conference materials
  • The top 10% of accepted abstracts will receive a "Poster of Distinction" category and award
  • The primary authors of the top three posters will be invited to give 15 minute oral presenations at one of the Clinical Research Educational Conference seminars and will receive an additional award

7.  Poster Presentation
Poster boards approximate size to be posted soon.  Posters will be mounted using pushpins which will be provided.  There will not be Internet, electrical connection, tables or chairs provided for poster displays.
