 | |  | NUCATS Institute affiliate hopitals include: With 265 beds, Children's Memorial Hospital is the medical school's primary pediatric teaching institution. It is located three miles north of the University's Chicago campus in the Lincoln Park area. Founded in 1882 as a free-care hospital for critically ill children, Children's Memorial has become a referral center that attracts patients from around the world. Begun in 1984, the Children's Memorial Research Center has evolved as the Midwest's only institution devoted exclusively to pediatric medical research. Northwestern Memorial HealthCare is the corporate parent of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the country's leading teaching hospitals, and Northwestern Memorial Foundation, which provides fundraising and grantmaking support for the hospital's mission and strategic goals. The hospital affiliates/subsidiaries provide a range of healthcare services including acute and tertiary inpatient care, ambulatory care, wellness and prevention programs. With the opening of the new Prentice Women’s Hospital in October of 2007, Northwestern Memorial provides a total of 897 beds in the Feinberg Pavilion, the Prentice Women's Hospital and the Stone Institute of Psychiatry.

RIC has been recognized as the "Best Rehabilitation Hospital in America" since 1991 by U.S. News & World Report. RIC works to improve quality of life for people with physical disabilities through patient care services, advocacy, and community outreach efforts. In addition to its flagship hospital on the medical school's Chicago campus, which has an inpatient capacity of 155 beds and serves about 200 outpatients daily, RIC operates a network of day-rehabilitation centers and outpatient centers throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.
