Grantsmanship Training

Research Team Support (RTS) offers "Finding Funding Opportunities" and "Grantsmanship Overview" workshops to groups of faculty, research administrators or trainees at no charge. Contact Holly Falk-Krzesinski to discuss details.

RTS also offers more comprehensive grantsmanship courses throughout the academic year and summer months in partnership with Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies; as such, Northwestern-paid employees are eligible for a significant tuition discount through their benefit plan. The tuition fee can also be paid using your department's chartstring (contact the Human Resources Benefits Division) or by credit card on the course registration site CAESAR.

Grantsmanship for the Research Professional

This course aims to teach and enhance skills associated with effective grant opportunity identification, preparation, writing, and submission to investigators engaged in research, as well as research administrators responsible for pursuing grant opportunities.

Strategies for developing grant proposals that support both hypothesis-driven and need-based empirical research activities will be presented, with a focus on opportunities from government, corporate, and foundation sectors. The course is appropriate for researchers at all levels- graduate students through faculty- and research administrators conducting or supporting research in the biological, medical, and natural sciences; physical sciences and mathematics; social/behavioral sciences; engineering; law; education; and technology development. Topics covered in this two-day workshop include: Research Program Development; Funding Opportunity Identification; Grant Resources; Pre- and Post-Award Compliance Overview; Proposal Planning; Proposal Components; Writing the Specific Aims Section; Budget Development; Review Process; Proposal Submission; Team Science; Post-Award Primer.

This course aims to teach and enhance skills associated with effective grant opportunity identification, preparation, writing, and submission to professionals and volunteers involved in development activities at nonprofit organizations. Individuals new to grant writing or those seeking to enhance their skills will benefit from this course. Strategies for developing a program and proposal that meet an agency's mission will be presented, with a focus on opportunities from government, corporate, and foundation sectors. Topics covered in this two-day workshop include: Program Development; Funding Opportunity Identification; Grant Resources; Proposal Planning; Proposal Components, including Evaluation; Review Process; and Proposal Submission.
