Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Patient care areas and other Clinical Research Unit (CRU) resources at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) are housed in a 5,230 square foot unit located in the hospital's Feinberg Pavilion, on the 10th floor (Northeast), facilitating concentrated and efficient research care. At NMH, the center's patient care area features four inpatient beds and an outpatient facility with five outpatient rooms. The facility's environment can be adapted for specific study requirements, such as sleep studies or bone marrow transplant.

The center's inpatient rooms are located on the north side of the Feinberg Pavilion and are fully private. There is one negative airflow inpatient room for research patients with infectious diseases and one inpatient room approved for radioactive procedures and therapies.

The inner floor areas of the unit---totaling approximately 1,334 square feet---house the CRU's outpatient area. A central hallway provides access to five outpatient rooms. Two of these rooms are designed to accommodate sleep studies and have bays. Four outpatient rooms can accommodate cardiac monitoring through the use of two portable cardiac monitor units.

A core laboratory, administrative offices are located adjacent to the patient care areas. The core laboratory offers a range of assays, specimen processing, and storage services. The dietary core research kitchen provides a facility for the formulation of special or controlled diets and dietary analysis.

The inpatient unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout the year.

The outpatient unit is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays and Saturday mornings as needed.  Simple specimen processing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the Core Laboratory. Click here for specimen processing information during CRU off hours.
