The Center for Clinical Research (CCR) brings together clinical and regulatory support functions under one unit for the first time at Northwestern University. The CCR provides comprehensive, integrated, and enhanced services for investigators across multiple departments and hospital affiliates. The CCR contains two Programs: - The Clinical Research Support Program (CRSP)
- The Regulatory Support Program (RSP)
For more information about NUCATS resources for investigators planning clinical trials, please visit our Clinical Trial Support Services page. Andrea E. Dunaif, MD, Charles F. Kettering Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine, serves as director of the Center for Clinical Research. Dr. Dunaif is an internationally recognized clinical investigator and reproductive scientist. In 1996 she received the Endocrine Society’s highest award for clinical investigation, the Rhone-Poulenc-Rorer Clinical Investigator Award for her studies on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common endocrine disease in premenopausal women. Her strong record of translating basic to clinical research includes demonstrating that women with PCOS have profound peripheral insulin resistance and an increased risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus; elucidating the molecular mechanisms of the defect in insulin action and the primary role of insulin as a disrupter of reproductive function; pioneering the treatment of PCOS with insulin sensitizing agents; and mapping a major PCOS susceptibility gene that is associated with both reproductive and metabolic phenotypes. She has an outstanding track record of NIH-support; her current funding includes an R01 and a Specialized Center of Research on Sex and Gender Factors Affecting Women’s Health. She was the founding program director of the GCRC at Penn State University, a member of the training faculty of Penn State’s T32 grant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and a mentor in the Women’s Reproductive Health Research Center K12 award at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was the first director of the Harvard University National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health. Dr. Dunaif is the immediate past president of the Endocrine Society and continues to have an active role in the Society’s mentoring programs. She speaks at career development programs for the Endocrine Society and the American Federation for Medical Research. Currently, she is the program director of Northwestern’s T32 Program in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hormone Action and a mentor for the institutional K12 Program. | |
